Arena Ferndown are delighted to be supporting the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation by donating free meeting room hours for the foundation’s use throughout the year.
The Foundation seeks to provide support for young people within the Ferndown area and was established in memory of Lieutenant John Thornton, a 22 year old Royal Marine who was born and raised in Ferndown. John was tragically killed in the line of duty in Southern Afghanistan in 2008 and the Foundation was formed shortly after the news of his death. Since its formation, the Foundation has made awards totalling over £400,000 to over 1100 young people, providing them with scholarships and bursaries to help them follow their dreams and ambitions.
The Foundation’s latest meeting took place this month and saw the team able to allocate £85,000 of funds to local groups and individuals from donations and fundraising activities, continuing their work to support young people in the Ferndown area. Arena are a proud supporter of the Foundation and we look forward to continuing our association as the charity grows from strength to strength.
